Eliot’s poem Gerontion
Blake, the acronym “OBE” was incorrectly explained as “overwhelmed by events.” In U.S. government agencies, including the intelligence community and the Department of Defense, the correct/official acronym “OBE” is “Overwhelmed by Events.” The opening credits feature characters and scenes from the series interspersed with mirrored panels. Former CIA Director of Counterintelligence James Jesus Angleton, also known as “the spy poet,” described the intelligence game as a “Desert of Mirrors,” a phrase borrowed from T.S. In the world of intelligence, in search of truth, it’s hard to distinguish between reality and its reflection, it’s an illusion, like being in a hall of mirrors.
Nothing has even come close to it until now
Norton and Friends: Cher/Keira Knightley/Michael Fassbender/Josh Brolin/Jaylen Ngonda (2024). I have to say, I was lucky enough to watch The Bureau a few years ago and honestly, it’s probably one of the best things I’ve ever seen. There’s a correlation between the two series, apparently mentioned as being “influenced” by it, but to be honest I wasn’t expecting a similar plot. Don’t get me wrong, the series has been amazing so far, great cast, good cinematography, but it wasn’t something I hadn’t already seen in the French version.
You won’t regret it
It’s too early to say how this will play out, but I highly recommend that anyone who hasn’t watched The Office should watch it. After Fassbender played a hitman in David Fincher’s The Killer and I saw that he was cast, I knew right away that he was the perfect choice for the role. These kinds of shows require a certain amount of concentration while watching them so that you can follow all the characters and plot details. You wouldn’t watch them while cycling on an indoor trainer.
There’s no middle ground when it comes to shows that you either like or you don’t like
Some might even find them slow, maybe even boring, but it’s those character traits, the complex personal struggles, and the slow build-up of tension that I think make them great.
