Both films feature some of the most brutal performances by the antagonist, and both have stuck with me after watching the film. The story, like Nefarious, is basic and simple, and relies more on character than special effects.

What happens here is one of the best thriller/horror films I’ve ever seen, and it kept me on the edge of my seat. When Hugh Grant shows up, it starts out like any other day for the two Mormon missionaries. The film evolves into a twisted game of cat and mouse, with the evil Hugh Grant dropping his well-spoken, educated speeches in favor of zany humor and terror.
It’s like the film is engulfing you in a sense of uncertainty
What makes this film so compelling is the intensity on screen, during which, I have to say, the audience I was watching it with was completely silent. I mean, I’m not a fan of psychological horror, but this is one that still sticks in my mind. If there’s one small complaint, as with many A24 films, it’s that the ending can be a bit disappointing.
One that doesn’t require as much physical strength as intelligence to scare you
I actually found the ending satisfying, as it still stuck with me after the film ended. This may not only be the best horror film released this year, but it may be the best film of the year. Hugh Grant deserves an Oscar for his performance, because since Anthony Hopkins’ Hannibal Lector or Heath Ledger’s Joker, has there been a more terrifying villain.
