(2024). Emilia Pérez is a 2024 musical drama film starring Zoe Saldana as Rita, a lawyer who does her job until a drug lord kidnaps her and asks her to change her gender. Along the way, Selena Gomez plays Jessi, the drug lord’s wife who is adjusting to her new life with the children she raised with him after a sex change she doesn’t know about.
Most of the story is peppered with musical numbers, so if you don’t like this type of genre, stay away from it
Then, of course, Karla Sofía Gascón plays Emilia Pérez, a drug lord who has changed genders who continues to build his empire (no longer “he”). This particular film had a very strange effect on me after it ended because I went into it blindly, and honestly, that’s exactly what you should do because the film as a whole is very unexpected and quite comedic in places. After the director and cast gave us the idea, the film started and the audience got to laugh and enjoy some aspects of the film, which I appreciated.
The musical performance at the end was boring in my opinion, but I think it summed up the story a bit
The film stands out mainly for its amazing cinematography (at least amazing), great acting by everyone involved and some of the musical numbers. I say “some” of the musical numbers because most of them are quite good and have an impact on the story, but as the film progressed the musical numbers became much less flashy than before and because of that became cliché. But don’t listen to me, because this is a film for everyone and I really enjoyed some of the elements of this film and I think most of you will too when it premieres soon.

Overall, although not as good as I expected, Emilia Pérez is still a cinematic achievement in terms of music and great acting, which really makes the film even more engaging and entertaining. If you like musicals, give Emilia Pérez a chance, I think she successfully delivers on what audiences can expect from her.
